Myles Salak, JuJu, leaving
Myles Salak, hospital chief nurse, JuJu, and good friend, is leaving for New Mexico on 11 December 2006. Add another one to the Pinoy diaspora.
Seventeen years ago, Myles joined the hospital as a staff nurse. She rose from the ranks, and 12 years after, made it as chief nurse. In October of last year, she met a certain JuJu named Elai Cruz and the rest, as they say, is history.
We became good friends and had a lot of arguments about a lot of things, the way JuJus do. Strong personalities invariably do, and Myles was not a push-over by any stretch of the imagination. Anyone who thinks otherwise will be amazed to discover that Myles Salak has a mind of her own and that she is her own woman. After all, heading a hospital department delivering a core service, if not the core service, is not an easy job.
Myles strong point is her ability to move people, to touch people from the heart. She has an appreciation for the human aspect of any task and can, therefore, strongly appeal to any person’s soft side. More importantly, she does this with all sincerity and without regard to anything but the service.
Her skills and strength of character brought about by experience will be hard to replace. We will miss Myles around here. I’ll miss her, especially, as she has been the heart of our efforts together to bring about quality improvement to this organization. After all, people can only succeed in their endeavors when they keep within sight their humanity.
Good luck, Myles!
